Born and raised in Pocahontas, Iowa, Denny Naughton talked to himself regularly while walking around on his paper route. When his mother threatened to take him to a sychiatrist, he took up ventriloquism. That was at age eleven. While still in high school, Benny worked as lead singer in a rock & roll band and was good enough for Denny to be inducted in 2004 in the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Benny was the only ventriloquist dummy known to serve as lead singer in a rock band. Benny paid Denny’s way through law school traveling summer with the Grand Ole Opry stars, and performing at fair dates, rodeos, and conventions throughout the Midwest. |
